Arizona, Southwest Artist,
Will Barter Paintings for Lodging

"Yuma Sand Dunes", 1999, acrylic,
24" x 34" price: $1,000

WILL TRADE PAINTINGS
WORTH AT LEAST $3,000 OR MORE
FOR 3 WEEKS LODGING

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS...
You provide lodging for three weeks, while I'm there, I paint your paintings. Yes, your welcome to watch me paint. Together we determine the size, style and subject of the art work.

I'll bring my paints and brushes and the canvas. I use acrylic paint that dry in an hour, and will last a lifetime. I will have the stretcher bar/frames made there when we decide how many, and what the sizes are. Then I will stretch the canvas on the frame before I start painting.

Of course we won't know what each painting will look like until its done. But I pride myself on my skill and whatever I paint will be fresh, exciting and an valuable addition to your collection.

"Red Horizon", 1998, acrylics,
47" x 55" price: $2,500

"Lupita de los turistas"
2001, Mixed media, Sold
My specialities are abstracts and Southwest art, but I can also do portraits, landscapes, and use your home as the subject for a painting. Review the art on this website if you like what you see then email, or call me. Use the navigation links at the top of the page to see the artwork on exhibit in this site.

LODGING/STUDIO:
I prefer a separate guest house or an area attached to the main house. It doesn't need to be fancy, just clean and comfortable with a kitchen so I can cook my own meals. If the lodging space is large enough, I can use it to paint in. I'm a neat painter and I can lay drop cloths on the floor.

If the lodging is too nice to paint in , I will need a place to paint. A garage, barn, or covered outside space. This space should have good lighting, and be big enough so I can see the work from about ten feet away. Ideally the work space should be near the lodging area where I will be staying. If there is a nice garden or space outside, I can paint outside when weather permits. I can easily make my easel from materials in the local lumber or hardware store.

I will not have a vehicle, so the lodging/studio should be within walking distance of local services, grocery store, restaurants, and such.

LOCATION: I'm looking in the geographic location of the Bordeaux or Provence areas in France, or in Ireland or Scotland or in the Tuscany area of Italy. But I will consider any geographically interesting location. In other words, there's flexibility in terms of the location. I would love to be on the coast.

ABOUT THE ARTIST-Louis LeRoy:
I'm a Chicano, in my early sixties, recently divorced, a non-smoker who enjoys fine food and an occasional glass of wine. This will be my vacation from my work as the director of the Yuma Art Center Museum. Yuma is in the Sonora desert in Southern Arizona on the California, Mexico borders. You can see more about the art center by going to www.yumafinearts.com

As a painter my average price for a painting is around $1,500 for a 20" X 30" painting. You can see my exhibition record on this website in the "About the Artist" section. I rise early in the morning and paint or work on my computer. Incidently I write HTML code and we could work in a web site for you as part of the barter arrangement if you need such a service.
